Student observed a demonstration of electromagnets. They realized that there is a small magnetic field that is near a conductor while electrical energy is flowing through it. I observed that if you wrap the conductor around a metal object that is attractive to magnets, the magnetic field increases. With the closed circuit, the paper clip was attracted to the nail, when the circuit was opened the paper clip dropped. Students also learned about two types of circuits: series and parallel. A series circuit is when all of the indicators share the electrical energy. If one light bulb goes out, they all go open because the circuit becomes open. An example would be holiday lights or light that you wrap around trees. The parallel circuit is the opposite of the series circuit. In a parallel circuit, the indicators have their own complete circuit. If one of the light bulbs goes out, it does not effect the other bulbs because the have the own circuit.
