Students used their observation skills to determine if a substance would dissolve in water. We tested the following solids: salt, sugar, cocoa powder, pepper, brown sugar and cinnamon. Students used all five of their senses to make observations about each substance. Because the experiments were very controlled and safe, students were able to use their sense of taste!! Based on their observations, students made predictions whether the solid would dissolve or not. Our results proved that all dissolved except for two of the solids: pepper and cinnamon. Many were surprised by our results. Aevri thought, "the cinnamon would dissolve. I was amazed."
I hope you enjoy learning how the garden changes throughout the school year.
